$2,000 towards $10,000

Starting on Thursday, November 9, LTS is conducting a Food Drive with the goal of raising $10,000 and collecting 600 items of food which would supply Sierra Community House clients 5,500 Meals AND create awareness around this need and its benefits.

For food drives, we take any non-perishable food that is unexpired and unopened. We always need the following:

  • Dried or canned beans, especially pinto and black beans
  • Pasta and sauce
  • Cereals (especially of a healthier variety), including oatmeal
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned tuna
  • Canned meat & poultry
  • Juice
  • Rice
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Nutritional supplements such as Ensure, Glucerna, etc.
  • Healthy snacks for school kids
  • Diapers are always appreciated, too

We will be collecting cans of food for Sierra Community House on campus through Tuesday, November 28.

Sierra Community House feeds families and individuals by providing weekly food distributions throughout North Lake Tahoe-Truckee. We provide grocery bags comprised of essential food groups including vegetables, fruit, whole grains, dairy, starches, proteins, and oils. Our food pantry programs are designed to help the 1 in 10 community members in California and 1 in 8 in Nevada who face food insecurity. We also offer the opportunity to connect community members to additional resources. Additionally, the Hunger Relief Program provides Emergency food boxes and cooking compromised bags to local offices and organizations throughout the area to serve those in the community with an urgent need for food or those without access to a kitchen. Through partnerships with local grocery stores, seasonal gardens & growers, and food banks, Sierra Community House is helping to get food into the hands and mouths of our community while reducing the amount of food ending up in landfills.
