Join Us in Making a Difference
With SNAP benefits still uncertain and the realization of how many families are food insecure in our region, we felt compelled to do something impactful to help people here in our North Lake Tahoe-Truckee community.
This is why we created a fundraiser to support Sierra Community House. The mission of Sierra Community House is to reinforce, connect & empower our North Lake Tahoe-Truckee community through family strengthening, crisis intervention, hunger relief & legal services. They do incredible work, our community is so lucky to have such an incredible resource available to anyone in need.
Sierra Community House feeds families and individuals in need by providing weekly food distributions throughout the North Lake Tahoe-Truckee area. Sierra Community House partners with local grocery stores, seasonal gardens/growers & food banks which helps them get food directly into the hands & mouths of people in our community while reducing the amount of food that ends up in landfills. (They rescued over 69,000 pounds of food last year—and think they could double that this year!) Last year, the Hunger Relief team provided over 300,000 meals, feeding approximately 3,300 community members in the Truckee area.
We know that most of you don’t have a cabinet full of extra food to give but luckily, giving cash (instead of cans) can help Sierra Community House’s reach go even further. Their buying power is about 4x the amount of the normal shopper. Your donations allow Sierra Community House to buy fresh, healthy food in bulk which in turn helps reduce food waste & storage challenges.
